The Thakazhi Memorial and Museum functions at Sankara Mangalam where Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai lived. The Government of Kerala took over Sankara Mangalm in 2000 and converted it into a museum. Formally, it started functioning in 2001. The 75 - year old Sankara Mangalam Museum today houses a wide hall, chamber, kitchen, verandah and some rooms. Showcased are the awards, prizes, certificates and personal belongings of Thakazhi Sivasankara Pillai. The Thakazhi Museum is the only museum in India where the Jnanpith Award, the highest honour and award of India, is exhibited. The Padma Bhooshan presented by the president of India, Government of Kerala’s Ezhuthachan award, Thakazhi’s books and their translations in different languages and the doctorates conferred on Thakzhi Sivasankara Pillai by the University of Kerala and M. G. University are also on display.
