Thappitta and Nakari are instruments popular in the border areas of the Palakkad district. Thappitta is in the shape of ‘thappu’. The instrument is basically a skin stretched over a shell made of clay. It is played during ritualistic occasions like a funeral ceremony, vela and of late, for street advertisement campaigns.
