Udukku, a percussion instrument in the shape of an hour glass, has skin surfaces on both ends. It is used for Ayyappan Pattu and Mariyamman Nritham performances. Udukku is a smaller version of Timila. It is played with the fingers of one hand while the other hand is used to adjust the sound with the help of the strings at the middle portion. Udukku is used both for adjusting sruti and melam.
